hello all!

Here's your week:

Thursday we have the usual dinner and program.  We'll be finishing up our work with textiles, so if you took your spindle home and want to do some more spinning, please remember to bring it with you.

Sunday we have Sunday school for everybody, and no BYF in the evening.  We're scheduled to start up with Drum Circle again on February 5th, 5-7pm.

and finally...
Winter Camp registrations are due soon! If you've already turned in money and a registration form, you're all set. Thank you.

For everyone else, the early bird cutoff date is tomorrow.  If you're planning on coming but haven't yet turned anything in, please get in touch with me today or tomorrow so I can register everyone in time for the early bird pricing. Then you can bring forms and checks to church on Thursday or Sunday. If you're planning on doing this, please make checks out to "FBC Redlands."

If you're still thinking, the final deadline for registrations is February 8th and the price goes up $10. Please turn in all forms and money (checks made out to FBC Redlands) to me before the 8th to guarantee your registration.

*We will probably need 3-4 cars and drivers to make it to camp this year.  Some of you have already volunteered to drive or loan a vehicle.  Thank you! If you have not yet and would like to help out with that, please let me know asap so we can make arrangements*

Happy 2012 everybody!

Here's your week, and all you need to know:

Thursday we resume Thursday night dinner (5:45) and program (6:45).

Sunday morning we resume Sunday School for all. The correct response to this, of course, is "woot!"

Sunday evening, 5-7pm in the BYF room, we have an informational meeting for the National Youth Gathering.  The website for the Gathering is here.  This meeting is open for all youth and families to learn more about the gathering this summer and start talking about fundraising ideas.  Only youth ages 14-19 are eligible for this year's gathering, but please come on out regardless of age to learn more and get ready for your chance to attend in a few years.

You should be getting some mail soon with information about the Gathering (for those who will be eligible for this year's gathering), and a medical release form for Winter Camp.  Please disregard the payment instructions on the Winter Camp form.  Return all forms and payments to me, and I will register us as a group once everyone's information is turned in.  Also, please don't let finances be a barrier to attendance at any youth retreat or gathering. There is money available to help offset costs, as well as fundrasiers throughout the year..

Finally, the calendar page has been updated, so plase refer to it for all your date and time needs.

hello all!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the time off from school.

There are a lot of very exciting things coming up that you need to be aware of.  So, here goes:

  • Sunday is new year's day, and we'll have one service, 10am. No Sunday School or BYF.
  • We resume regular Thursday night dinner and program on January 5th.
  • Next Sunday the 8th in place of our usual BYF time, we will have an informational meeting  for the National Youth Gathering in Washington D.C. The meeting will be during the regular BYF time, 5-7pm in the BYF room. This meeting is for all youth and families to learn more about the gathering and the fundraising efforts we'll be undertaking this Spring to help pay for it all.  The gathering is for youth ages 14-19, but all youth and families are welcome to this meeting to learn about what's going on.  Please let me know if you're coming by Thursday the 5th so we can have enough materials and food for everyone.
  • We have the sign ups for the Winter Youth Retreat on February 18-20.  I'll have those available starting Sunday, or you can print them off here.  Please be sure to get one and get it filled out and returned asap.  The early bird cut off date ins in late January.
  • We also have a date for the 30 Hour famine. It will be March 30-31.  More information coming soon.

So, mark those calendars, have a fantastic new year's celebration, and see you all soon!

Wednesday December 14th 2011

First off, two things:
  1. Thanks to everyone who was a part of the pageant.  It was a rousing success, and the congregation was pleased to see all you youth as a part of it this year.
  2. Hope everyone's staying as calm as possible during this finals week.

Here's your week at church:

Thursday: Is tamale and pinata night!  Woot! After feasting and smashing, we'll spend some time together doing a little Christmas service project in the BYF room.

Saturday: is Las Posadas, aka tamales and pinatas part two!  Start at Bethany Reformed Church at 3:30pm if you want to process the whole way, or just start at our church at about 4pm.  We'll sing, process down the street, sing some more, then eat tamales and smash pinatas(again).  So, Mary and Joseph searching for room at the inn + walking and singing + good food= a pretty good way to spend a Saturday evening.

Sunday: We have our Sunday School brunch so please bring something brunch-y to share.  We'll provide breakfast burritos, you bring whatever else you'd like to eat that morning.  Also, if you want to be a part of the gift exchange, bring a $5 or less wrapped gift.

Sunday evening the Rafters will be hosting us for BYF from 5-7pm.  Directions and the address will be available in Sunday School.

Have as calm a week as possible, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

hello hello!

Thursday: Dinner, and then Hanging of the Greens at normal program time

Saturday: Christmas Pageant Rehearsal, 9am-noon in the Fellowship Hall.  This rehearsal is for everyone, those who have signed up for specific parts in the pageant, and also for those who have not, but who are going to be behind the scenes folks.  We need all hands on deck for this, so please come on out and be a part of the awesome wackiness that is the Christmas Pageant.

Sunday: Regular Sunday School for all in the morning, normal time and place.

Sunday evening, please arrive at the church by 4:30pm to get ready for the pageant.  Drummers, please arrive by 4pm so we can run through things a few more times and provide prelude jams, eh, music.  When it's all over, we can feast on cookies and cocoa and laugh about that time when we rolled the Christmas tree through the Fellowship hall on a furniture dolly. The pageant starts at 5pm and should last just about an hour or so.

So, please come on out for what you can, and enjoy the season.  It only comes once a year.

Tuesday, November 29th 2011

Picture
Hope everyone's recovered from your (fill in the blank with your favorite Thanksgiving food to eat too much of) fest.

This week:
Thursday we have church dinner as usual.  Then, those who are singing or dancing for the pageant will have rehearsals with Hilary and Ellie.  You'll sing first, and then learn the next part of the dance.

Those of us not singing and dancing (ok, those of us not singing or dancing in a choreographed way) will head upstairs to help the children make ornaments for the pageant, and then we'll be in charge of setting up the Fellowship Hall Christmas tree.

Sunday: Sunday school for all in the morning, and Drum Circle in the evening, 5-7pm.

also,
Pageant!- December 11
Las Posadas!- December 17

Tuesday, November 22nd 2011

Picture
hello hello!

First, thanks to Mark and Barbi Carpenter for hosting BYF this past Sunday.  Now our youth not only know how to gamble (or maybe just learned about probability), but they also have some delightful Christmas accessories (Rudolph noses, Flarp canisters).  Be sure to say thanks to them for opening their home to us and for being so hospitable and kind.

This week:
NO Thursday night.  This might have been obvious, but, you never know.

Sunday, we have regular Sunday School for all!
Sunday evening we have BYF at the church.  We'll be getting into the Advent/Christmas spirit with some seasonal activities and dinner, 5-7pm.  Be there or be.....a rhombus.

And, those of you who've signed up for the pageant should have gotten word about your rehearsals.
Those of you who haven't signed up for something specific will meet with everyone on the morning of the 10th for the group rehearsal.
We really do need all hands on deck for this one, so even if you're not an out front kind of person, there's plenty to do behind the scenes to make this pageant come together.

And finally, just a head's up that Las Posadas is coming up, December 17th.  We're not hosting this year, so we just get to show up and have fun, so please get this on your calendar.  It's not a youth specific event, but it will be a lot of fun, and a good time to just hang out together and enjoy.

hidee!

What you need to know this week falls into two categories: this week, and the Christmas Pageant.

This week:
Thursday is the Agape Dinner.  This is our big all-church Thanksgiving meal.  If you're coming, please show up a little early to help serve the meal.  You'll be paired up with a loaded food cart, and then go through the Fellowship hall placing all the food on the tables.  It's an easy way to say thanks to the congregation, so if you can help, please do!

Sunday morning the Sunday school classes will combine and meet in the Mezzanine classroom so we can use the internet connection.

Sunday evening we'll meet in Yucaipa at Mark and Barbi Carpenter's house for BYF.  We'll have directions in Sunday School.

Christmas Pageant:

Those of you who have signed up to perform in some way for the pageant should have already (or will soon be receiving) received an email about rehearsal times for your group.

Those of you who have not signed up to perform and still want to, there's time, but you should let me know soon how you want to be involved- reading, singing, dancing, or playing an instrument.

Those of you who do not want to peform are still needed!  We need as many people as possible to help with behind the scenes stuff.  That way you can still be a part, but you won't have to get up in front of everyone.  Please take a look at the needs list and let me know.

And that's all.  See yall Thursday!

Tuesday November 8th 2011

Picture
Hello all!

I've got a lot for this week, so it's all broken down into handy-dandy categories below.  I've tried to be as brief as possible, so please read through everything to make sure you've got all the most up to date info on what's going on.

For this week:
This Thursday night we'll be headed over to the Grove at Plymouth Village to deliver the birdhouses we made and spend some time with the residents there. It's a Family night, so if your family is going, please ride with them.  If your responsible adults will not be attending, please (please, please) get your medical release form in so we can still get you there and back.

Sunday School will be business as usual

Sunday evening we will have Drum Circle at the church, 5-7pm.  This is a switch from our usual schedule, but we had to make a few changes, so please come to church this Sunday evening instead of to Yucaipa.  We'll plan on heading up to the Carpenter's for BYF the following Sunday the 20th.

For this season:
This year's Christmas pageant will feature both children and youth.  There are lots of opportunities (both behind the scenes and out front) for you to participate in the celebration.  An email should be arriving to you all soon with a sign up sheet attached.  There are 3 main categories: Helping put up Decorations, Performances/Readings, and Behind the Scenes.  So, please take a look and fill in your name for the spots you're interested in.  We'll pass around sign ups in Sunday school too.

There's also a volunteer sign up for the rest of the season coming your way via email.  I'll try to resend an updated version of this monthly so that you can sign up for times that work for your schedule.

For your information:
Medical Release forms are here, one more time, just in case.

Dates for things coming up this season and into the New Year are on the calendar, so check it out.

Finally, we have a very exciting new Youth Task Force going.  There will be some excellent stuff coming from this group, so be on the lookout for some new opportunities to be a part of the work of making this youth ministry happen.

Wednesday November 2nd 2011

Picture
Happy November!
Hope everyone had a great Halloween & All Saints Day & Dia de los Muertos.

For this week:
Thursday is the make up day.  We'll have time to finish the days of creation clay tiles, and also put finishing touches/walls on the birdhouses.

Please remember, we'll be at Plymouth Village next Thursday the 10th.  There will be more details on that come (this) Thursday, but please (please, please!) turn in a current medical release form if you haven't yet this year.

Sunday we have normal Sunday School for all, and Drum Circle in the evening, 5-7pm.  Please bring $5 for dinner if you plan to eat.

Remember to take a look at the calendar page if you need a reminder about dates for upcoming events.

Hidee all!

First off, thanks to all those who picked up extra slack this weekend, in Sunday school and In BYF.  You are appreciated/awesome.

Here's your week:
  • Thursday we have the Quarterly Business Meeting.  Now, I know that it doesn't have the snappiest name ever (I tried to rename it a while ago to the Quarterly Review of Our Pursuit of Attaining Awesomeness Get Together, but it didn't stick), but it's important.  As youth, we will all be participating in that meeting, learning about how the church works, and remembering that your voice in how the congregation operates and makes decisions is just as important as everyone else's.  Truly, so show up and get enlightened.
  • Sunday we have Sunday School in the morning, both classes running full steam.  We will not, however, have BYF in the evening.  Drum Circle returns on November 6th.

And finally, they've chosen the dates for the Regional Winter Youth Retreat, February 18-20th, so please make a note on your calendars!

Happy Tuesday all!

Here's your week this time around:
  • Thursday we continue making a joyful, hammering noise unto the Lord while we continue our birdhouses.  In November, we'll be heading over to the Grove at Plymouth Village to deliver them to the residents there.
  • Sunday we have Sunday School for all, and then BYF at the church in the evening (5-7pm).  This week's scripture reading wraps up the Moses story.

and also:
Medical release forms!  Please!

Hello Hello!

First off, thanks to the Kishimotos for hosting BYF this past week.  Who knew kickball would bring the neighborhood out like that?  So fun.

So, here's this week for you:
  • Thursday we start woodworking with Scott.  So, bring your inner, um, lumberjack, and we'll learn how to turn some tree pieces into something else lovely and useful, all while pondering what it means to be known.
  • Sunday we have Sunday school for both classes in the morning, and drum circle in the evening (5-7pm).  If you're planning on eating dinner at drum circle, please bring $5 for the meal.

And a little reminder or two:
  • Medical release forms, please!
  • Check out the calendar page if you have any schedule questions.

tuesday October 4th 2011

Picture
Happy October all!

Drum Circle this week was a lot of fun.  We had a dozen youth, 6 adults, and some pretty good sounding rhythms bouncing around the church lawn.

Here's what's what this week:
  • Thursday: We'll continue with the photography theme, this time trying some action shots around the idea of injustice in our community.  I'm still working on getting the pictures from last week up, so look for that soon.
  • Sunday: Sunday school for all (including idol smashing for you middle schoolers), and BYF at the Kishimotos in the evening.  We'll meet there, so don't show up at the church because no one will be there.  If you haven't already put your name on the sign up sheet, please do so this week so we know how many folks to expect.

And finally:
The calendar is updated, with another Thursday night in November for finishing the clay tiles.  So, those of you who like closure can rest easy; you'll get to put the finishing touches on your masterpiece in a little while.

tuesday September 27th 2011

Picture
hello hello all!

First off, thanks to all those who came out for the ABW breakfast drumming on Saturday.  It was our first time playing together without Scott's leadership, and I think it went really well.  Well done team!

This week you've got...
  • Thursday night: We start with a new medium this week: photography.  After a little discussion on the 10 commandments, Robert will give us a little tutorial on taking interesting pictures, and then you'll break off into small groups to find/create and take some photos related to the theme.  maybe we can even put some of them up here on this page so everyone can take a gander.
  • Sunday School for all at 9:45am.  This will be our first week diving into the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum and should be interesting.  We'll gather together in the BYF room for some community time, and then split into Middle and High classes for the lesson.
  • Sunday night is drum circle.  Woot!

And because I know there's not enough texting in your life right now...
At this point you should have received some call-em-all messages from me.  This service also allows us to do text messages, but you have to subscribe to fbcryouth to receive them.

Fortunately, it's easy to do: just send a text to 292929.  You should receive a reply message from call-em-all letting you know it worked.  Then all you have to do is make sure I have your cell number so you can be included on any future text broadcasts we may put out.

Have a superb week!  See yall soon!

tuesday september 20th 2011

Picture
hey all,
What's what this week (in chronological order, no less)?
  • Thursday will be our last day for working on the bas relief clay tiles on creation.  Since you all know what to do now, you should have more time this week to actually get your hands in the clay and create.  Also, come early to pop the balloons from 2 weeks ago. Woot!
  • Saturday is the ABW breakfast with Drum Circle accompaniment.  Drummers, please let me know if you can come (arrive at 9am to warm up and sort ourselves out, play at 9:30am, done by 10am).  It's an easy peasy way to make the ABW ladies very happy, do your good deed for the day, and score a doughnut.
  • Sunday we have Sunday School for all at 9:45am, and then BYF at church in the evening from 5-7pm. For BYF we'll be screenprinting, eating, and hanging out (not necessarily in that order), so please remember to bring something fabric you want to print on (shirt, hat, scarf, banner, etc.)  Also, any adults who want to come help out with the screenprinting, please let me know.  We could use the extra hands.

**************************************************************************************************************************************************
So, here's the quick run down:
  • bring back your medical release form
  • sign up to drum for the ABW breakfast on saturday
  • any adults who want to come hang out on Sunday evening and help screenprint, let me know

Have a great week everyone!
**************************************************************************************************************************************************

tuesday september 13th 2011

Picture
hello all!

Here's your week this time around:
  • Thursday we'll talk about the Genesis account of creation, and start working with clay as we think about formations (of the universe, and also of ourselves).  Things shouldn't get too messy, but this probably isn't the night to wear your taffeta ball gown, in case you were thinking about it.  Also, the string globes from last week are looking good, so if you come early Thursday we can pop them and see how they hold up, and talk about what happens next with them.
  • Sunday we'll dive into some new church year orientation in the morning, and then do some drumming in the evening for BYF.  Drum Circle will begin at 5pm, and all youth are welcome to come and check it out.  Please give me a head's up if you can come so we can get enough food (we'll eat after we finish drumming), and make sure we have something for everyone to play.

Speaking of drumming, we have the opportunity to play a few songs for the American Baptist Women's breakfast on Saturday, September 24th at 9:30am.  There will be sign ups on Thursday and Sunday for anybody who can make it that day.  It's a super low pressure audience, won't take long at all, and will absolutely make the day of the ABW ladies who are putting this event together, so if you've been drumming and can make it, please put this day on your calendar.

new church year promise: 100% more pirate jokes
It's a big week.

Here's the breakdown:

Thursday night dinner and program resume this week.  Have some dinner (5:45), and when you're done, you can meander on over to the the BYF room for our first Thursday night program night of the year.

Rally Day is this Sunday the 11th.  This means that there are two services (8:30 and 11) with the Rally (9:45 on the patio) in between.  Youth will go down to the BYF room together after our turn being clapped at/for.

Super Sundae Sunday is also on the 11th.  The ice cream social starts at 4pm, and there will be some slightly more substantial finger food available for youth since we'll be walking over to the Bowl for the 9/11 observance at about 5:30 and won't have time for a full meal.  Parents, you're welcome to tag along for this one, but if you choose not to come, you can pick up your youth at the church following the service.

Finally, the calendar page has been updated, so please take note of what's coming up.  I'll do my best to make sure this page stays current and useful, so if there's something you notice missing, please do tell.

Calling all drummers!

Picture
Hey all,

For those youth who have been a part of the drum circle this past year:
We will be drumming this Sunday evening the 4th from 5-7.  We'll drum for a while, and then have some pizza and talk about what drum circle will be this year.  So, just a nice low-key rev up back into Fall programming and a new school year.

Who: Old drummers (no worries new youth, you'll be welcome at the next drum circle later this month)
When: Sunday September 4th, 5-7pm
Where: FBCR lawn

See yall soon!

Thanks for all those who came out to the pool party at the Dillows on Sunday, and for all that tasty food.  Be sure to say thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Dillow the next time you see them please.

A few reminders:
  • Two of our very own youth are going to be baptized this Sunday, so please pray for them as they prepare to take this next step, and for everyone else who is still considering baptism and what it means for them.
  • Rally Day is September 11th.  We'll have our usual all-church ice cream social at 4pm at the church, then youth will have a dinner at the church, and walk over to the Bowl together to take part in the community Remembrance Ceremony (flier available here). Parents, you may pick your youth up at the church following the service.
  • And finally (for now), everybody's favorite fall paperwork, the new Medical Release Form is available here, along with its new best friend, the Media Release Form.  Please print and complete these, or grab one on Sunday and return as soon as possible.

The date and location for the American Baptist National Youth Gathering have been set!
So, from July 24-28, 2012 youth from all over the country will be descending on Washington D.C. for five days of worship, activities, and learing opportunities.

More information to come, but those of you who will be in High School by next July can start getting this on your calendars and thinking about ways to get our group there.  The website has all the information available so far, http://www.abhms-immerse2012.org/#!

Here are some nuggets of information for you all to think over and get on your schedules:

  • On Sunday the 31st of this month we need some special altar decoration.  If you'd like to help contribute, just show up early that morning and we'll make it happen.
  • Our Baptism Information class will be Sunday August 14th after the service.  Lunch is provided, and we'll aim to be done before 3pm.  The actual baptisms will happen 2 weeks later on the 28th.  You don't need to make a decision to be baptized or not on the 14th, just fyi.
  • And finally, we have another Youth Pool Party Potluck on Sunday August 21st.  Place tbd, but please get the date on your calendar now.

Hope everyone's enjoying the summer.  Get in touch if you have any questions or thoughts.

Hey all!  Hope you're all well this fine summer day.

This Thursday we have a Potluck Pool Party for all youth, parents/guardians, and youth leaders at the Zabaleta's house from 4pm-7pm.  Please bring: a side dish or dessert to share (hot dogs will be provided) and a swimsuit and towel if you want to get in the water.  We'll welcome our new 6th graders, eat, swim, and just spend some time together.  If you have any questions, haven't yet rsvp'ed, or need directions, please let me know.

Parents, we also have a workshop coming up this Saturday from 9am-1pm about children's and youth ministries, so please come if you can.

see yall soon!

This pic, by the way, is from a fast food chain from North Carolina called Cook Out where you can get things like corndogs as side dishes.  Once the youth do that big fundraiser and get a private jet I'll fly you all back there to give it a try.

A Summer Update

Picture
Hey all,

Click here for some info for the coming weeks (it's a word doc).  And if you missed it on Sunday, there's also a mailing that should be coming to you soon with all of this information as well:

Please take a look and rsvp to me (erin@fbcredlands.org, or call the church office) for the Pool Party on June 30th.

Also, those of you who have been in Sunday School this past year got to spend some time with the Green Lantern in Robert and Matt's class.  Since the movie is out in theaters now, they're going to take a little trip to the Krikorian to see it this Sunday the 26th after the church picnic.  If you'd also like to see the Lantern in action, you can join them there, but you'll be responsible for your own way there and home, and for getting a movie ticket.  The theater doesn't have the showtimes out yet for Sunday, so you'll get an update with the time later this week after they release that info.  If you plan on coming, please shoot an email or a text my way so they know who to be on the look out for.  (Parents, here's a link to the IMDB parent advisory if you're looking for more info.)

And that's it for now.  As always, if you have any questions, concerns, comments, etc., please let me know:

A Taco Full of Grace

Picture
Actually, it just says grace, but it also sort of looks like taco, which would be a super good band name, or religious taco truck chain.  Anyway, here's this week for you:

  • This is our last week of Thursday night dinner and program and Sunday School for the year.  Starting next Sunday the 19th we have just one service, at 9:30am.
  • Thursday we're building a big structure that, if we finish, can be something  the church uses throughout the summer for hanging prayers on.  We'll also finally go dig up those letters buried outside from last Spring.
  •  Sunday, we're going to do some spiritual doodling, as in with markers and whatnot.  Come and see (that the Lord is good, and that gel pens are amazing)!

That's the week!  More info for the next few months coming soon! Until then, enjoy some graceful tacos, and see you soon!

tuesday, may 31st 2011

Picture
Hope everybody had a super lovely long weekend.

A few reminders for you (as you revel in these last few days of school and prepare for the deep mourning you'll be in once you can no longer wake up every morning and go learn):
  • Wear something non-embarrassing on Sunday, please.  Or wear something super embarrassing.  Whatever makes you happy, just remember that you're going to be photographed in it.
  • No youth lunch or stuff after church this week.  There'll be some summer opportunities to get together, so hang tight, and I'll get that info out to you soon.
  • Please be thinking about how you want to use the little stash of money we have available to do.....something great.  We'll talk about your ideas over the next couple of weeks and try to put a plan together.

As for this week, we're all normal, all around.  We've got two more weeks of regular schedule (2 worship services, Sunday school, Thursday night) and then we move into summer schedule, and there'll be some opportunities to participate in worship and other "extracurriculars".

any thoughts or questions you just have to get out?  just let me know...

First off, thanks to everyone who helped out with the outdoor service this week.  It was so super helpful to have all the extra help getting everything put away.  Yay for you!

For this week:

Thursday: Supper as per usual for all, and then we'll be making found object art like the one above, and if all goes well, putting it up for folks to see and ponder.

Sunday: Sunday School for all!  We won't have anything after church this week, so go do something lovely and be nice to each other.

Tuesday May 17th 2011

I know you've all been waiting on pins and needles to find out who won the World Beard Championships this week, so click for the results.

Now that that's settled, here's your week:

Thursday: Supper for all, and then we will have the usual meeting of the minds/wackiness in the BYF room.

Sunday: Sunday school for all, including some photo taking, so don't wear something you're going to be bummed out to see yourself in later (see above photo).

And now for a very important poll:
This is a regularly scheduled BYF week from 12:30-2pm, but I also know that this time of year is a festival of crazy busy-ness for everyone, so:
Are yall wanting BYF this Sunday, and if you are, would you like
to have an evening (5-7pm) pizza and Kinect night?
Please think about it and let me know either way what your thoughts are, and once I've heard from some folks I'll let everyone know what the plans are.

First off, I have to say that Sunday School this past Sunday was great.  Truly, it was.  So, thank you all for being awesome.  Scroll to the bottom to find a little something from this Sunday:

For this week:
Thursday:  Supper as usual, then see above image.  We'll make some to give away to others, and s'more for ourselves (harhar).  Oh, and you'll also find out why smore making is a good spiritual discipline.  Really.

Sunday: Sunday School for all (yay!), and then youth lunch (bring some money please), and drum circle (wahoo!)!  It's going to be a good day.

An abbreviated retelling (by our super awesome youth) of the story of the walk to Emmaus (original here):

......
Jesus: What were you discussing with each other while you walk along?

Cleopas: Are you kidding me?  You weren't there?  You don't know what's going on?  The things he was doing were so crazy.  He was doing all these acts of God, then they killed him.

The one with Cleopas: A few of the women were in the cave.  They didn't see him, but they saw a vision of angels.

Jesus: You dummy!  How could you be so foolish and slow?  How do you not understand what the prophets told you? (Jesus explains what it was exactly that the prophets told him)

Narrator:  As they came near the village, he walked ahead as if he were going on.

Cleopas: Dude, it's nighttime.  We got some creepers out there, homie.

Narrator: Jesus went in the house with them and broke the bread and poured the cup.

The One with Cleopas: Didn't we have heartburn while he was talking to and teaching us?

Narrator: The returned to Jerusalem and found the rest of their companions there, and told them other disciples how slow they were not to recognize Jesus before he shared the meal.

the end

see yall soon!

First off, for anyone who'd like to see some photos of the tornado damage in Alabama, here are some.  This might be a good opportunity to say a prayer for all those folks.

(Also, an extra piece of candy for whoever can tell me on Sunday what story this super cheesy picture is portraying.)

And for us:
Thursday: We have supper as usual, and then a little celebration of life and living.  And popcorn.  Come and you'll see.

Sunday: Sunday school for all!  We will not have anything after the 2nd service this week, so instead you should go and tell someone you love that you love them.  They'll like it.  Drum circle returns next Sunday the 15th.

Short and sweet, and more info for you next week about some upcoming events and such.

We're now in Eastertide, which just sounds like fun, doesn't it?  Like, waves of Easter goodness crashing over us.

Well, at any rate, here's your week:

On Thursday, we have the Quarterly Business meeting, which sounds distinctly un-fun, so I'm going to call it the Quarterly Review of Our Pursuit of Attaining Awesomeness Get Together.

Anyway, there's dinner and then we have the QROPAAGT. I know renaming it doesn't actually make it more interesting, but this is importnat for getting to know about what the church that you're a part of is doing.  So, come expecting good things, and good things will happen.  Deal?

On Sunday we have Sunday School back to usual.  There will not be any afternoon activities this week or next.  This week we're taking a little breather from the busybusy of Easter, so go home and eat that last Cadbury egg.
Then on the 15th we're back to normal.

Have a good one everybody!

Tuesday April 19th 2011

Picture
It's Holy Week, which means several things:

On Thursday, those who can be here to drum for the Maundy Thursday service should arrive as close to 5:45pm as possible, grab your food, and be upstairs in the sanctuary by 6:15pm so we can run through our part a couple of times.

On Sunday, all drummers need to be at church by 6:20am.  This is early, yes, but we need time to run through everything a couple of times and then head over to the bowl to play the prelude for the service.  If you're the kind that runs late, tell yourself you need to be there by 6:00am. Also, if you find yourself feeling cranky about being up early, just remember these two things:
  1. Jesus is already up
  2. The first sound lots of folks in the neighborhood surrounding the Bowl will hear on Easter Sunday is our drums, which is fairly awesome.

After the Bowl service, we'll head back to FBC and get the drums in place for the 8:30 service (we're playing the benediction).

Then we have our traditional Sunday School brunch with tasty breakfast burritos and rice crispy treats and whatnot to reward everyone for all their hard work and early rising.

Also, for those who are interested, the sanctuary is open on Friday afternoon from 3-6pm for communion and meditation, and there will be an Easter Vigil service on Saturday at 7pm in the chapel.

If you have any questions, let me know, and otherwise, see yall soon!

Hello all you fine people out there.  Here's your week:

Thursday we'll be helping out around the church preparing for Palm Sunday and Easter.  Wear something you can move around in (no tutus, please).

Sunday we have classes for all (including spoiler alert! cookies!), and then drum circle in the afternoon, from 12:30-2pm.  I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to show up for Drum Circle this week!  We have a couple of very exciting opportunities just around the corner to play these drums for people other than the birds who usually hear them on Sunday afternoons on the church lawn.  It's all going to be a lot of fun (I promise), and it will be even more fun if we're well rehearsed and sound nice.  More info here.

oh, and this is also your gentle reminder about the Lenten commitment you might have made to give something up or add something helpful to your daily routine.

And that's all.  See yall soon!

Hidee all,

First off, we had a drum circle practice this past Sunday, and it is going to be super exciting to have the big, echoing sound of drums be the first thing that lots of people hear on Easter Sunday.  Welcome back, Jesus, indeed!

For this week:
Thursday: We finish up with the natural disasters discussion, and work on the pinatas if we have time

Sunday: Sunday School for all as usual.  Then at 11am Hilary will lead a session on getting ready for High school and college.  If you want to come but haven't said so yet, no worries.  Just let me know if you plan on staying for it so we have enough food for everyone.

And after that, those who want can head on the snow tubing trip.  Parents and Guardians, there will be a permission slip for you to sign on Thursday or Sunday so we're all on the up and up.

And don't forget:
April 10th- University of Redlands lunch and tour. Please sign up so we can get enough food vouchers to eat on campus

April 3rd, 17th, and 21st- Drum Circle.  On the 21st the drummers will be a part of the Maundy Thursday service, representing the heartbeat of Jesus.

April 24th- Easter Sunday!  Drummer will play at the 7am service at the Bowl, and also for the 8:30a, service at FBC.  And then, Easter Brunch!  Woohoo!

Ladies and gentlemen, there's a lot coming up, so there's a mailing speeding its way to your homes right now, and below is a color-coded update to keep you informed.  All the info is also on the calendar, which is here.

This week:
Thursday we'll talk about St. Patrick, natural disasters, and God's response to it all.
Sunday we have Sunday School for all, then lunch (bring $$), and then drum circle.

Next Week:
Sunday, March 27th we have two special events for youth:

From 11am-1pmish our very own HIlary Craw will be leading a conversation on preparing for high school and college.  She'll give you information about classes, SATs, settling into a new environment, and lots more.  And you can ask all those burning questions you have but didn't know who to ask.  Food will be brought in to the church so everyone can eat before we get started.  Friends are welcome to this, so please pass on the info if you know someone who might want to come.

After that (1:30pm-5:30pmish), those who want can load up and go on a last-snow-of-the-season-hurrah snow tubing trip in Running Springs.  More info on that here.  Please sign up asap if you're interested in going so we can arrange drivers, etc.

Coming up:
Sunday April 10th: Trip to the University of Redlands, 12:30-2:30pm: We'll have lunch on campus, a tour led by current U of R students, and the chance to get a feel for college life.  Friends are invited to this one too, so please pass the info along if you know someone who might be interested.  More info here.

Easter Sunday, April 24th: The drum circle will be playing for the Community Easter Sunrise service, and for our very own 8:30am service at the church.  More info here.

Whew!  So, check those calendars, and see yall soon!

Here's this week:
Thursday: Mardi Gras supper (just two days late) at 5:45pm, and then program at 6:45pm

Sunday: Sunday School for all, and then some lunch (bring money, please), and then a good old BYF.  We'll have a project (pinatas!), a field trip (for ice cream), and then some gaming (of the non-electronic variety).

In other news, our very own youth drum circle has the opportunity to play for the Redlands Community Easter Sunrise Service!  It's an early day, but also a really great chanced to serve our community.  And, you'll get doughnuts.  More info here.

Hidee all!

First off, the 30 Hour Famine is this Friday and Saturday!  Woot!
We meet at the church parking lot at 6:30 to load up the cars and head over to 1st Presbyterian San Bernardino.  We'll sleep there and then spend the day around San Bernardino doing some fun activities, and end at 5pm with a fast breaking potluck (meaning you get to eat again).

Here's what to pack: sleeping bag and blanket, warm clothes (it'll be chilly Friday night), toothbrush/paste, comfy shoes you can walk in, pillow, flashlight, notebook, Bible

Consent forms are here, or give me a call and I'll get one to you.

And as usual, we have Thursday Night dinner and program (paper airplanes do over), and Sunday School on Sunday morning.

For the drummers out there, I need to know if you want to resume drum circle this Sunday the 6th, or take a break after the Famine and start again on the 20th.
Think about what you want to do,
and drop me a line,
or a call,
or a carrier pigeon.

Tuesday February 22nd 2011

Picture
hey all!

It's a totally normal sauce kind of week, so here goes:

Thursday: supper, and then you get to bombard each other with paper airplanes.  No, really, you do

Sunday:  Sunday School as per usual, and then BYF in the afternoon.  Lunch for those who want to stay, but bring some cash.

And the 30 Hour Famine will be here soon, March 4-5.  Forms here.  Any parents or others who would like to volunteer for patrolling at night, or to do the whole famine, please let me know.

Wednesday February 16, 2011

Picture
There are some changes for this week, so here we go:

Thursday will be business as usual.  Come, eat, be merry, learn something useful, have fun, etc, etc, etc.

On Friday, those of you going to winter camp should be at the church by 6:00 to load cars.  To save time, we'll bring in some Gourmet Pizza to eat at church before we head out.  Then it's off to Cedar Falls.  Please be as on time as possible so we can get packed and get out in good time.  And remember: it's just a weekend trip.  That means one bag per person, and cell phones will be locked up in the cars once we get to camp.

We get back to town between noon and 1pm on Sunday, and parents will get a call before we make our way back down the mountain.

For those not coming to Winter Camp, there will still be Sunday School for you, so don't dismay.

Finally, remember, 30 Hour Famine is coming up.  If you haven't gotten a flier/consent form yet, let me know.

And that seems like enough for one week. See everyone soon!

Tuesday February 8th 2011

Picture
Hey yall!  By the time you read this I will be in the land of biscuits and gravy and cold weather, but here's your update all the same:

Thursday: See's sales for Youth Hope continue during supper.  Then it's time to be global citizens and solve world hunger/peace.  Or maybe just learn more about finding God's calling for you in the world.

Sunday:  More See's on the patio (the candy will be in my office) between services and after Sunday School and Sunday School for all (with St. Valentine this week!).  Barbara and Scott will be taking the BYF reins this week with a special evening game night at the church.  Check the yellow flier you got in Sunday School for the time.

Also, Winter Camp is on its way!  Remember, we're not taking an alpaca team to camp, so pack with car trunk space in mind.  One suitcase per person, please.

And finally, the 30 Hour Famine is also on its way!  You should have gotten a flier and consent form in Sunday School, but if you didn't, it's also here, and some will also be in the mail.

Tuesday February 1st 2011

Picture
Happy February everybody!

There are some important things happening in the next couple weeks so here's a rundown:
  • We're selling See's Candy bars to benefit Youth Hope (they work with homeless teens in our area and came to visit us last Spring) starting Sunday and gong through the 17th.  We'll set up a table on the patio and sell as a group.
  • As a part of the discernment process the church is going through, the youth (that's you) will be helping with a video project to find out about the history of youth ministry at our church.  So this Sunday, we'll start asking folks to participate.  More info in Sunday School.
  • Winter Camp is coming!!!!! If you have not yet given me a registration form, get it in soon.  There's still time to sign up if you want to go.
  • And finally, the 30 Hour Almost Famine is coming soon as well, March 4-6.  What's an almost famine, you ask?  Find out Sunday.

Also, we're taking a week off from BYF and Drum Circle for one more week.  There will also be no youth lunch this week.  BYF and youth lunch return next Sunday the 13th.

Otherwise it's a standard week, Thursday night supper and program (fair trade style this week!) and Sunday School for all.  Woot!

Tuesday January 25th 2011

Picture
Hello hello hello!

This is a very exciting week.  Here's why:

On Thursday we'll learn why fair trade chocolate is worth looking into.  Supper at 5:45pm, program at 6:45pm.

On Sunday, drummers should arrive at the church by 7:45am.  I know it's early but we need to rehearse and let folks who are reading in the service run through their lines.  And, as a reward for being there nice and early, we'll have breakfast burritos during the beginning of Sunday School.  We're playing in both services, Sunday School will be as usual, and there will be no BYF or youth lunch.

So to recap:
arrive at 7:45am if you're drumming
drummers playing in both services
breakfast burritos and regular Sunday School
NO Youth Lunch or BYF this week

and finally: Winter Camp registration forms are due soon!  Please email or call if you need more info, or if you lost your form (they're also here).

Tuesday January 18th 2011

Picture
Hidee everyone,

Here's your digest for the week:

Thursday we continue with supper and program, including solving world poverty (or at least talking about what we can do about it)

Sunday we'll have Sunday School as usual, Middle Schoolers moving through the lectionary and HIgh Schoolers moving through some modern art (aka comics and faith).

Also, Sunday is the Annual Business Meeting after the 2nd service.  This means we will not have youth lunch or BYF.  Youth attendance at this meeting is highly, deeply, fervently recommended, but it's up to parents and guardians as to whether or not you come.  However, since all of the adults who work with youth are church members, they will likley also all be in attendance at the meeting.

And finally, next Sunday the 30th the Drum Circle will be playing in both services.  Everyone participating will need to arrive at church at 7:45am that morning.  We'll do breakfast burritos during Sunday School to feed the musicians.  Also, since we're getting there early and working hard all morning, we will not have BYF or Drum Circle after.

Whew!  Any questions, let me know.  Oh, and get those Winter Camp forms in!

Tuesday January 4th 2011

Picture
Happy New Year!

Here's what you can look forward to this week:

Thursday Night supper and program resumes this week.  Wahoo!  We'll undecorate and have a little 12th night celebration (meaning, the last night of the Christmas feast)

Sunday School continues with Middle Schoolers in the Lectionary class and High Schoolers looking at comics (and other pithy, theological subjects).

Those who come to 1st service and who are staying for drum circle can find Eric and go for a walk and food, provided you bring some moolah.

Speaking of which, we will have Drum Circle from 12:30-2pm on Sunday.

and finally:
Winter Camp!!! will be February 18-20 at Camp Cedar Falls.  The flier is here, and there will be registration forms being handed out on Sunday

and, an updated interesting new thing item!

Tuesday December 28th 2010

Picture
Happy Feast of Christmas everyone (for 9 more days)!

It's a quiet week here, so here's your fast update, and then something new!

  • No Thursday night supper.  Dinner and programs resume on January 6th, with a brand new study for the youth on becoming global citizens.  Woot!
  • Sunday is a regular day: Sunday School (with flip flopped classes), and then drum circle after 2nd service.
And, in other exciting news, the drummers are scheduled to play on January 30th during 1st (and maybe 2nd) service for the offering!  We'll start working on what we'll play this Sunday.

And finally, I'm adding a new page to this site to talk about all the things you're paying attention to anyway, so we might as well address them theologically.  I don't have a snappy title yet, so if after you read it you get an idea, feel free to send it my way.  Pop over here (or use the tab at the top) to read the first entry.

Wednesday December 22nd 2010

Picture
It's nearly Christmas and everyone's on hyperdrive, so here's the quick skinny:
  • No Thursday dinner.
  • Christmas Eve service on Friday at 7:00pm.  Very pretty, lots of Christmas songs, and candles!
  • Sunday is a regular day: Sunday School (with secret santa exchange, $5 limit, don't worry if you weren't here last week to get a name- we've got you covered), and a BYF Boxing Day extravaganza at my house.  Anyone who needs the address can get it Sunday morning.

And that's it for now.  Hope everyone has a lovely, warm, happy Christmas!

We've got cantatas in both services, featuring several of our very own youth leaders.  Woot!

Tuesday November 30th 2010

Picture
Hope everyone's recovered from Turkey-induced sleepiness and has had their fill of cranberry and dressing sandwiches.
So, on to this week:

Thursday: Since we only have 2 regular Thursday night dinner/program times this month, we're going to spend our time finishing up some old projects, including that 10 plagues things.  So, in conclusion, woot!

Saturday: It's a Family Service Day, 9am-noon.  If you come, look for Barbara to check in and then there will be lots of projects to take care of.  It's the last one of the year, so if you can come, please come on out and support Family Service during their busy time of year.

Sunday: Regular classes in the morning, then drum circle after 2nd service.  We do not currently have someone to hang out with/take to lunch those who come for 1st service and are staying for drum circle.  Any takers?

Coming up soon: Next Thursday is hanging of the greens, next Sunday the 12th is BYF, and Friday the 17th is set up and pizza for Las Posadas.

Monday November 23rd

Picture
Since last week's posting was so long, and since it's a holiday week, here's your update, short and sweet:

No Thursday Night dinner or program.  Enjoy the food, football, and thankfulness with people you love.  And maybe also take some time to pray for those who are without any of the above three this holiday.

Sunday we're back on track with Sunday School and BYF.

Calendar Information: Check out the bulletin board at church (the one in the breezeway) for monthly calendar info.  I'll work on posting a new set of reminders every month.  And the calendar page on this site has everything that's coming up over the next several months, including some stuff on Winter Retreat and 30 Hour Famine.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Tuesday November 16th 2010

Picture
So, there's a lot coming up over the next few months, so in red we have stuff this week, in purple there's stuff coming up this month, and finally in green there's stuff coming up over the season.  Ok, here we go!

This week:
  • This Thursday we have the Agape meal.  We need folks who are planning on coming to help serve the food and clear tables.  It's not a lot of work, and it's a way that the youth can say thanks for all the support the congregation gives us.
  • This Sunday we have Sunday School classes, and then Drum Circle after the 2nd service.  Also, those of you playing for the children's pageant will have a rehearsal with Jonathan Peske during 2nd service.

This month:
  • Next Thursday is Thanksgiving.  You could come here, but it might be a little bit more of a bummer than you're hoping for.
  • Next Sunday the 28th we have BYF.  Woot!

This season:
  • Sundays are fairly standard for the month: Sunday School in the morning, Drum Circle on 1st and 3rd Sundays, and BYF on 2nd and 4th Sundays
  • Thursday night dinner and program resumes as per normal on December 2nd.
  • We have a service day at Family Service coming up on Saturday December 4th.
  • Hanging of the Greens happens on the 9th.
  • Set up (help needed!!) for Las Posadas is on Friday the 17th at 6pm (pizza dinner for those who come help- should take about 2hrs)
  • Las Posadas is on Saturday the 18th.  Meet at the church at 4:30pm, youth help needed for crowd control throughout the evening.

Whew!  That's a lot, but just take it color by color, let me know if anyone has questions or wants to volunteer for something, and don't worry, this won't be the last you hear of any of it.

ta da?
yup.
Ta Da!!!!

Hidee all!

Here's what's what party people:
  • Thursday: We finish talking about evangelism.  This will be our last regular Thursday night meeting until December.  Next Thursday the 18th is the Agape Meal, and then it's Thanksgiving.
  • The girls sleepover will be this Friday starting at 6pm at my house.  If you haven't already rsvp'ed, do it soon so we know how many to plan for.  Pick up on Saturday morning is at 8am.
  • Sunday: We'll have two super duper exciting classes, followed by youth lunch, and then BYF.  We're going to be learning yoga at an actual yoga studio (Breathe Yoga) downtown, so bring clothes you can move easily in.

Don't forget, I will be having office hours at Augie's Coffee shop (the red building on 4th street downtown Redlands) on Tuesdays from 3-5pm through the end of the year (unless otherwise noted), so come on by if you like and have a tasty fall beverage.

Also, thanks to all those who participated in our first drum circle.  If you were there this past Sunday, there will be a drum for you at our next circle on the 21st.  If you were not there on Sunday but want to participate from here on out, I need to know or there won't be anything for you to play!

And finally, Las Posadas is coming up on December 18th and we need some youth help in setting up the Fellowship Hall for the feast.  On Friday December 17th at 6pm we'll have a pizza and set up party with some youth from the other participating churches.  Please mark your calendars if you can come out and help!

Tuesday November 2nd 2010

Picture
Happy election day all! Hope those of age are enjoying their civic liberties, and those not of age are enjoying the end of snippy campaign ads.

Here's this week:
Thursday: We start a new topic: evangelism.  We'll be taking a little trip down to market night to observe the haps and then come back to talk about what we've seen.  Be there, or be a rhombus.

Sunday School: Both classes meeting as usual this week.  Also, bonus leftover Halloween candy!

Drum Circle: starts this Sunday the 7th from 12:30-2pm!  Yipee!  If you haven't yet let me know you want to be a part, I need to know asap, or there won't be a drum for you to play.

Also, Las Posadas is coming up on the sooner side of later.  More info on its way, and also more info here.

Lots to tell you about this week, so here we go!

*Thursday is the Quarterly Business Meeting.  This means that we'll be in the meeting, and I'll be presenting on the kinds of things we do with the youth group.  Just like last time, I'm going to show the congregation some of the things we do, so I'll need a little assistance from those of you there.

*In case you've been sticking your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes, and singing lalalalala for the past couple weeks, Halloween is coming up, this Sunday in fact.  This means the following:
  • We're having the long-anticipated ketchup fight at the end of Sunday School (after, of course, an enlightening and spiritually nourishing lesson).  You'll be getting something in the mail about it this week with a list of things to bring with you on Sunday so you can participate.

*Also in your mailing, you'll be getting info about the Youth Drum Circle starting in November.  If you want to be a part, I need to know asap so we can make sure there are enough drums for everyone.

*And finally, I'm going to start holding "office hours" on Tuesdays from 3-5pm at Augie's coffeeshop.  If you want to come by and hang out, bring a buddy, tell me the plot of your favorite book, whatever, I'd be glad to see you, and I'll buy you a tasty beverage

ok, that's all.  see yall soon!

Rain!  (yay!)

Ok, just needed to get that out of my system.  Moving along (like a game of ping pong):
  • The great thing about Thursday is that it involves working on your (super awesome) notebooks, a game of telephone, and choosing your lifelong career (ok, maybe not lifelong...)
  • The great thing about Sunday is that it involves not only Sunday School, but also 2nd service lunch (bring some money if you're planning on going), and BYF.  For BYF this week, we're setting up a free store and finding out what kinds of things our neighbors need (no, really, we are).  And there will be snacks.

also the following:
Medical Release Forms!!

(This update brought to you by the parenthetical side bar)

Tuesday,October 12th 2010

Picture
Lots going on here, so let's not waste any time

This week:
  • Thursday night we'll keep learning about discipleship and work on those pesky notebooks
Sunday we'll have both Sunday School classes and talk about kerygma.  Oh, and there's the candy part too, I guess.

Coming up:
  • BYF returns on the 24th!  Yipeee, I think is the appropriate reaction.
  • Also, there are lots more updates for things coming up over the next several months on the calendar page, including info about Las Posadas and tamale making activities.
  • The drum circle is still in the works.  If you haven't signed up yet, here's the skinny: sitting in a circle learning to play hand drums, fun, meditative, getting to know new folks.  Interested?  Let me know!

That'll be all for this week.  More later.

Wednesday October 6th 2010

Picture
super duper quick one this time:

BYF happens this Sunday!  We're still using the 99 Things... book, and this week is #69- watch a different kind of movie.  There will be the following: water balloons (well unless the sky is already supplying nature's water balloons, aka, rain), snacks, and Planet Earth.  Don't fret- it'll all make sense once you get here.

If you go to 1st service and are staying for BYF, HIlary and Eric will be taking yall to lunch.  Bring some folding money.

and finally:
  • medical release forms!
  • neon note cards!

Wednesday September 29th

Picture
heyo!

So, first off, I cannot express how deeply I want your 2010-2011 medical release forms.  If you give me a completed one, I might even sing a little song for you.

Second: Thursday night and Sunday morning are business as usual.  And on Sunday, you'll get to use fire (in a safe, carefully controlled, candle based environment). BYF returns on October 10th.

Third: Remember those dandy little neon notecards from a few weeks ago?  You should find yours (if you've lost it) and bring it on Sunday, please.

And finally: perhaps you've heard about the discernment workshop happening this weekend.  I'm going to encourage you all to attend for the following reasons:
  • there will be food
  • the discussions will be hard, but they're going to have an impact on the kind of church you grow up in
  • playing a role in the church you grow up in is a right you have, and you should exercise it
So, there it is.  see yall soon!

Tuesday September 21st 2010

Picture
Howdy!

A couple of things to note about this week:
  • If you're interested in Sunday School (now with 60% more notebook destruction- come and find out!), Thursday Supper and Program (more skits and statues), lunch out during 2nd service, and the triumphant return of BYF, you're in luck.  Those are all happening this week.
  • Also, I want your medical release forms!  Really, I do.  Bring them back and I'll give you a nickel.
  • And finally, mosey over to the calendar page for more info about upcoming events and activities coming your way.

Tuesday September 14th 2010

Picture
So here's a fun fact: If we were Eastern Orthodox, we'd be celebrating the feast of Aelia Flaccilla.  But we're not (well, at least not that any of you have told me about), so we've got this coming up instead:

  • Thursday:Church supper and Program are back on!  On the agenda: identity, ketchup, and where did that pesky disco ball motor go?
  • Sunday: Sunday school at 9:45am.  On the agenda: preventing forest fires, destruction as means of construction, and we'll start our classes.  Woot!
  • Next Sunday the 26th: First BYF of the year. Remember to bring lunch money if you're coming to 1st service.  On the agenda: pretzels, communion of the saints and sinners, and neighborliness
And, we have the dates for Winter Retreat!  Save the date for February 18-20, Camp Cedar Falls.  Details coming, mark your calendars.

Tuesday September 7th

Picture
Hey all!

Just a few things:
  • Thursday night supper and program starts again this week (that's the 9th for those of you looking at a calendar)!  Supper at 5:45pm, Program at 6:45pm.
  • Rally Day is this Sunday (the 12th), and promises to be entertaining and, dare I say, uplifting.  We're back to 2 services, and Sunday School starts, and then in the evening there's ice cream, so really what's not to like?
  • Everyone should have a medical release form for me.  If you need a new one, you'll find it here, or just ask for a new one, no charge.
There!  Short, sweet, and informative.
See yall soon!

Wednesday, September 1st

Picture
Howdy all!
So, a couple of things:
  • Thanks to everyone who participated in the commissioning service this past Sunday.  I know it was a little awkward, but it was important, so thanks for being a part.
  • We are no longer having a cookout this Sunday the 5th.  I apologize for the cancellation, but your friendly neighborhood associate pastor and her family are a bit more inundated than we intended to be this week.  But, never fear!  There will be more opportunities in the near-ish future for bonding over food and deep fryers.
  • Please check out the calendar page for updates on the schedule.
Looking forward to seeing you all this Sunday!

Monday August 23rd, 2010

Picture
Hey,

So, I don't know if you've heard, but school's back in session.
Which means that here at the church, we're gearing up for a new year. (insert raucous shouts of joy)

Here's the skinny for the next couple of weeks:
  • This Saturday, August 28th, is Bless Redlands Day.  We're at Family Service, 9-noon with a no-host Gourmet Pizza lunch after.  If you want to come, but your family is not, give me a ring so we can arrange a ride for you.
  • This Sunday, August 29th we're doing a commissioning service during worship.  The youth will be commissioned as a part of this.  It's nothing too painful, and definitely less scary than the pencil sculpture up there.  It'll just be standing up and saying a few words as a group.  In other words, get excited.
  • Thursday September 9th is the first Thursday Night supper(5:45pm) and program (6:45pm).
And, this Thursday the 26th all parents and guardians are invited to a meeting in the BYF room from 6-7:30pm to talk about the upcoming year, and also to start talking about the fall of 2011 when we get a big influx of new youth. If you haven't yet rsvp'ed, please do so.  And if this is somehow the first you're hearing of this, please let me know.

see yall soon!

Tuesday July 6th 2010

Picture
So, for anyone who's interested in coming out to Los Angeles on Friday the 16th, here's the skinny:

Cost for a whole day of merriment- train, lunch, snack= $25.  Anything else you might want to buy you'll need to bring some extra cash for.
We'll meet at the church at 9AM in order to catch the 9:40am train out of San Bernardino.
Once we hit Union Station there will be 4 exciting adventure opportunities in the following categories:
  1. Food
  2. City Views
  3. Culture
  4. Snacking
Then we'll aim for the getting back on the 6pm train to San Bernardino, and toodle back to Redlands.  If you're planning on coming but haven't let me know yet, do it soon!  I need to make sure we have enough drivers.

Tuesday June 22nd 2010

Picture
Hello from Wisconsin!  That's right, I'm away at a conference on youth, and why people in churches ought to care more about what happens to you folks.

So, I just have a few quick updates and reminders for everyone to mull over:
  • The Catalina fundraiser was a rousing success, so thanks to everyone who helped!  However, sign ups for Catalina have been a little, erm, slow, so if you've been hoping/planning to come, let me know asap because space is limited!
  • The church picnic is this Sunday after the service.  We were going to have our ketchup war then, but too many folks will be gone, so we're rescheduling.  Bummer, yes, but it also means more time to keep collecting packets for the big day.  Keep an eye out for a new KW day.
  • We also have a super exciting day out in Los Angeles coming up on July 16th.  We'll take the train into the city in the morning and have a choose your own adventure (among a couple different options) style schedule to a couple of different locations in the city, and then head back on the train in early evening.  Parents, you'll receive a list of the places we'll go to ahead of time, so no worries about anyone ending up stranded on Venice Beach.
There!  Short ad sweet.  More information (schedule and cost) about the day out in LA coming this Sunday.

Hope the summer's treating everyone well so far.

Tuesday June 8th 2010- The Last Few Days

Picture
Hey party people,

It's the last few days of our regular year program, and then it's on to the summer schedule.  So here's what's what:

Thursday: Last Thursday Night Supper and Program of the year.

Sunday: Last Sunday School of the year.  We'll have our usual end-of-year potluck (so bring something brunch-y to share), and hear about Youth Hope Redlands.  Will it be an excellent Sunday School hour?  Why, yes, it will.
And following the 2nd service, we'll have our last BYF of the year.  For those of you in Sunday School last week, number 66 is the winner, so, stick around to find out what we'll be doing.

And coming soon!
Catalina Fundraiser: Saturday June 19th.  Volunteers needed that day, and also for a few evenings beforehand.  More info here.  Also, please remember to turn in your registration and medical release form for Catalina as soon as you decide to go. ( Hint: you should strongly consider going as it will be fun, and there will be cheese!)

Ketchup War:Sunday June 27th at the church picnic.  Keep bringing in the packets!

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Picture
Hey, and happy first day of June!

So here's what's doing this week:

Thursday: Supper and program.  This week we're looking at Ministry of the Laity.  Extra points for anyone who can tell me what "laity" means

Saturday:  It's Family Service day, 9am-noon volunteering in the bulk storage and food pantry.

Sunday: Sunday school for all!  It's the penultimate one for this school year.  Double points for anyone who knows what "penultimate" means.
Also, next week, Sunday the 13th we'll have an end-of-year brunch, and a special guest for Sunday School.  Heidi Mayer who runs Youth Hope will be coming to speak to us about the work she does with homeless teens in our city and how we can help.  Her story is really great and you will want to hear it.  Also, there'll be bagels, so you really can't miss.

and a few reminders:
Catalina Fundraiser: Saturday June 19th.  Volunteers needed that day, and also for a few evenings beforehand.

Ketchup War: Sunday June 27th at the church picnic.  Keep bringing in the packets!

Wednesday May 19th, 2010

Picture
Hey all!  Here's the skinny on this week:

Pentecost Sunday
(on which you're encouraged to wear something red) happens this week, which is excellent for the following reasons:

  • It's usually called the birthday of the church because it marks a time when the apostles (followers of Jesus) and others were moved by the Holy Spirit and began to understand each other.
  • It involves "tongues as of fire" swooping in during a worship service, which you have to admit, would be pretty exciting
So, in conclusion, this week is going to be a little Holy Spirit heavy

as for the schedule this week:
  • Thursday is church supper, followed by the youth Co-op.  This week we'll put up Pentecost decorations in the sanctuary, and then make some "birthday gifts" for the congregation to give out on Sunday.
  • Friday is the premiere of the final Shrek movie.  The show starts at 6:20pm at the Krikorian, so let's meet there at 6:00pm.  If you plan on coming and would like a ticket, I need $6.50 by Thursday night so I can buy tickets on Friday morning and have them for you when you come that night.
  • Sunday: Both Sunday School classes.  Those who come to 1st service and are staying for BYF will head out to lunch with Hilary and Eric during 2nd service.  Then, BYF for all!

and don't forget:
Catalina Fundraiser, Saturday June 19th.  More info here, and also you should be getting something in the mail this week.

If you want to start getting occasional updates via text, text fbcryouth to 292929, and make sure I have your cell number.  Then you'll be on the phone list for all future text messages.

Wednesday, May 11th, 2010

Picture
This picture is painted on the side of a church in Chimayo, New Mexico.  What does this mural tell you about the congregation who gathers inside?  This Sunday during BYF we're going to talk some about how the look of our worship space affects the way we view God and each other, and then make something to go in the sanctuary next Sunday in honor of Pentecost.

The rest of the week's schedule is pretty normal: Thursday night supper and program, and all Sunday school classes meeting.

However, on Saturday, we are still planning on going to the Y Circus.  I still have 3 more tickets for folks who want to  come.  They're $14 and if you want one, I need to know by Friday so the tickets don't go to waste.

other upcoming events:
- Shrek movie night- Saturday May 21st.  Tickets are $6.50 if you let me know you're coming and bring in money by the 20th.

- Catalina Fundraiser- Saturday, June 20th.  Instead of having a yard sale like last year, we're going to collect donations for Goodwill.  If we can collect enough stuff (old furniture, toys, books, clothes, etc.) to fill a 28-foot truck, Goodwill will give us $2,000 which we can then use to pay for anyone who wants to go on the Catalina retreat in August.  There will be a flier and sign-up sheet on Sunday for anyone who wants to go to Catalina and use the money from this fundraiser to pay your way.

Also, everyone should have received a copy of some fellowship activities coming up over the next few months.  If you didn't, you can download one here.  Keep an eye out for some additional service opportunities coming up in the new couple of weeks.

Tuesday, April 27th 2010

Picture
Heyo!

here are the things to mark on the calendar, sign up for, or otherwise be aware of:

*    On Saturday May 15th some of us will be heading to the YMCA youth circus.  Show starts at 5pm and tickets are $14.  We're buying a couple of tickets this week in a block, so if you'd like one, call or text my cell and let me know.

*   The group calling system we use now allows text messages as well.  So, to subscribe to the service and start receiving occasional text updates, text "join fbcryouth" to 292929.  That way, when I send a text, you'll automatically receive it.  If I don't have your cell number, please send it along, or write it on the list in the BYF room so I can put you on the call list.

*   We're planning to go see the last Shrek movie at the Krikorian on Friday, May 21st.  If you'd like to go, bring in $6.50 before May 20th and there will be a ticket reserved for you.  Show times aren't out yet, so keep an eye out for that.

*   Also, the BYF schedule is changing just a bit for May.  Instead of meeting on the 2nd and 4th Sundays, we're meeting on the 3rd and 4th Sundays, May 16th and 23rd.

and finally...
This Thursday is the Quarterly Business Meeting at 6:45pm.  After it's over we'll head back to the BYF room for some games

This Saturday May 1st is a Family Service Association volunteer day.  We'll be there from 9-noon. Meet there outside the bulk storage area.

And Sunday is business as usual, Middle School on the music video series, and High School on the next episode of Freaks and Geeks .  NO BYF this week.

Tuesday, April 20th 2010

Picture
hello, hello, hello!

So, here we go:

This past Sunday there were 2 sign ups:

  1. To start receiving text message updates on your cell phone.  The group calling system we use now allows text messages as well.  So, to subscribe to the service and start receiving occasional text updates, text "join fbcryouth" to 292929.  That way, when I send a text, you'll automatically receive it.
  2. We're planning to go see the last Shrek movie at the Krikorian on Friday, May 21st.  If you'd like to go, bring in $6.50 before May 20th and there will be a ticket reserved for you.  Show times aren't out yet, so keep an eye out for that.
Also, the BYF schedule is changing just a bit for May.  Instead of meeting on the 2nd and 4th Sundays, we're meeting on the 3rd and 4th Sundays, May 16th and 23rd.

So, on to this week:
  • Thursday we'll finish up Religious Liberty and start on Autonomy of the Local Church.
  • Sunday both classes are on.  And BYF returns with a somewhat secret project.  Intrigued? Here's a hint: it will involve (heavily supervised) use of power tools.
ok, see you people soon!

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Picture
Heyo!  This week is nice and usual.

Thursday we're wrapping up Religious Liberty, and we'll be taking a look at the Baptist Joint Committee, which, I know, looks a little dull, but it's actually really interesting.  No, really, it is.

Sunday school as usual this week.  The high school class will finally be finishing "Kim Kelly is my Friend."

BYF returns on April 25th!

Also on Sunday, there will be a sign up for a movie night out on May 21st to go see the last Shrek movie at Krikorian.  So check your calendars. Also, more ketchup packets!

Tuesday, April 6th 2010

Picture
So, technically we're now in the season of Easter, which is exciting, because I hate the end of a holiday.  This season lasts until Pentecost, which is 7 weeks from now, and which is sometimes known as the Church's birthday.  More on that later.

So for now:
Thursday:  After supper we're back to a more regular schedule for a while.  Here's a little teaser: what does US currency have to do with Baptist identity?

Sunday: Both Sunday school classes are on!
And BYF is on this week!  Hilary and Eric will be escorting 1st service-rs to lunch somewhere nearby (so bring some bucks), and then we're going to be doing a little stencil/paint/fabric project (take a gander at the picture here to get an idea of what we'll be aiming for) to get us thinking about what good things we might want more of in our lives.  It won't be too messy, but also maybe don't wear your best suit/dress to church this week.

and don't forget those (legally obtained) ketchup packets!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Picture
Hey all!  So Holy Week started on Palm Sunday, which means there are a few special things going on this week:

Thursday: Supper will be as usual, but instead of our regular program time, we'll be joining the entire congregation for the Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service in the sanctuary.  In case you're wondering, it will be awesome and dark and a little unsettling (which, by the way, is how Maundy Thursday is supposed to be).  Want to know more about what in the world Maundy Thursday or Tenebrae are, click here

Saturday: It's the first Saturday of the month so we'll be headed down to Family Service to help them do some work in the facility, and maybe even some last minute Easter prep.  Meet at 9am at Family Service.  We'll be done at noon.

Sunday: Is Easter!  Those of you who were in Sunday school last week had the chance to sign up for an item to bring to our Sunday School Easter Brunch.  If you didn't sign up, just bring something breakfast/lunch-y to share.  After we eat we'll hide eggs for the JDs to find in the fellowship hall.  Also, you'll be getting some information on upcoming opportunities during the Spring and Summer.  In conclusion, it's going to be a good day.

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Picture
Heyo!

Spring is nearly here which is exciting for two reasons:
1. I get to use images like chocolate bunnies without seeming like a weirdo
2. We can start looking forward to all the fun Spring and Summer fellowship events and study opportunities, so be on the lookout for a calendar in the next few weeks.

In conclusion:  Wooohoo!

So, for this week:

Thursday: This will be a little different than usual, but hopefully very fun as well.  No details yet except this one: there will be extra dessert.

Sunday school: Both classes are on!  I think the Middle School class is finally done with cheetos, for now at least.  And the High Schoolers will be starting with a new episode, Kim Kelly is my Friend.

The next BYF will be on March 28th.  We'll be doing a special project to be used on Easter Sunday.

And also remember, we're still taking donations for the 30 Hour Famine.  The link to our group's online donation page is below in the last post.  Tell the folks you know who might be interested in kicking in a few dollars.

3o Hour Famine Donation Page!

Picture
We now have an online giving page for the 30 Hour Famine.  Encourage family and friends to visit this page and follow the link, or send them directly here:

30 Hour Famine Donation Page

Every little bit helps!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Picture
Hey all!

So with the end of the 30 Hour Famine, we are officially in the quiet season.  But wait!  Before you start gnashing your teeth, take heart!  Since the schedule is pretty calm for a while now, we can do some of those fun things* that yall are always asking to do.  So, if you have an idea (movies, hiking trip, broomball), send those my way and we'll see what's possible.

So for this week:

Thursday:  It's all communion, all the time.  We'll have a quick training for those who want to start helping serve communion, and then we'll continue our discussion of the Priesthood of all Believers and each serve communion to each other.

Sunday School:  Both classes!

BYF: This week's BYF is going to be the Discerning God's Call Workshop.  I know that the title doesn't sound all that thrilling, but it is so very important that you as youth participate in determining what kind of church we're going to be.
So, Hilary and Eric will take the crew out after Sunday School for some tasty beverages at the Olive Market (which means you should bring some $).  Then we'll all meet up for a burrito lunch at church, and then the workshop.  Parents, the workshop goes until 3pm, so the pick-up time will be an hour later than usual for those of you who will not be attending the workshop as well.

and that's all folks!

*note: jumping off the balcony into a pile of pillows is not going to be a possibility, just fyi

Tuesday March 2nd, 2010

Picture
OK, time for another stab at the haiku-ing

fasting for thirty,
not even dry ramen packs
greater good?  yes, please!

Ok, so all that to remind you that we will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine this weekend.  The fast starts at noon (or after your lunch period) on Friday and lasts until 6pm on Saturday.  Parents, just like last year, we're asking you to bring some non-greasy potluck food to help us break the fast in the Fellowship Hall.

But before that, we have a whole week ahead of us:

Thursday: We'll be outside doing some sidewalk chalk advertisements for the Famine and alerting people to the problem of world hunger.  Also, we can start talking about some fund raising ideas, maybe using some of those delicious oranges from Sunday.

Sunday:  Both High school and Middle School classes will meet.  Whoohoo!

NO BYF this week.  We will, however, be gathering on March 14th for the all-church Discerning God's Call workshop.  This is our opportunity to start talking about what direction our church will take, and you as youth will be able to tell others in the congregation what a fulfilling church life would look like for you as the youngest voting-age members.  Super exciting!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Picture
Heya!

This week is a pretty straight-and-narrow arrow.

Thursday: Supper and program.  This week we start talking about the Priesthood of  All Believers
Sunday School: Both classes will be meeting.
BYF: Lunch with Hilary and Eric, then we'll be heading out to a grove in town to pick some oranges.  No joking.  Bring some clothes you'll be comfortable in.  You'll be able to take some home, and we'll decide what to do with the rest later.

and the 30 Hour Famine is coming next weekend, March 5-6!!  Consent forms and a schedule for the weekend are available on Thursdays and Sundays, and online by clicking here.  We'll meet here at church at 7pm on Friday.

and finally, the diaconate is looking for more youth to help serve communion during 1st service.  So, we're offering a short 1st-time server training on March 11th from 6:20-6:45pm in the sanctuary.  After finishing the training, you'll be put on the calendar and someone from the diaconate will contact you about when you will be available to serve.

Tuesday, February 16th, 2009

Picture
This week is a pretty exciting one.  Here's why:
Winter Camp is officially, irrevocably, here.
Lent starts this week, on Wednesday, in fact.

So here's the deal:
Ash Wednesday service, 7pm in the chapel.  One hour, imposition of ashes, good way to end the day.

Thursday night supper and Co-op: Shrove Tuesday-on-Thursday pancake races and writing epistles

Friday: 5:30pm gather at church to pack cars, dinner at Gourmet Pizza, then off to camp until Sunday afternoon.  Packing list found here.

Sunday: Cindy will be here for anyone who wants to come to Sunday school, but Hilary and I will both be gone at camp, so there will be no High School class.

whew!
Oh, and the 30 Hour Famine starts on March 5th.  More details next week.  If you still need a consent form and fund raising packet, the form can be found here, and I'll give you a packet once it's in.

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Picture
Hello all!

Things are mostly business as usual this week: Thursday night program, both Sunday school classes, and BYF.

There are, however, two important changes coming to BYF for the rest of this school year:
  • We will only be meeting for BYF on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.  The dates can be found on the calendar page, or here in a word document if you'd like to print it off.
  • We will no longer have a snack during BYF.  Instead, those who come to 1st service and Sunday school will be able to go out to lunch somewhere on Orange or State streets with Hilary and Eric.  Those who are not going to 2nd service will meet Hilary and Eric on the patio after Sunday school and the group will walk or drive to their destination, eat, and return in time for BYF.  Those planning on coming should bring $5 for lunch.

And for you Winter Camp-ers:
  • You have a packing sheet on the top half of the registration form.  If you've lost your packing guide and would like a new one, you can take a look here.
  • We'll meet in the church parking lot at 5:30pm on Friday the 19th to load the cars up.  Then we'll walk over to Gourmet Pizza for a little dinner before heading out of town.
  • Youth may bring cell phones, but once we reach camp, all phones will be locked up securely in a car and will not emerge again until Sunday morning when we start making our way back down the hill.
  • We should be back at church on Sunday around noon.

Tuesday, February 2nd 2010

Picture
Hello February, the most oddly spelled month of the year!
wondering what this picture is all about?  All in due time (by which I mean 2 more weeks).

This week:

  • Thursday we continue unlocking the mysteries of the synoptic gospels, and that other weirdo gospel, John.
  • Saturday we're at Family Service Association for a day of service from 9am-noon.  Instructions for registering at disneyparks.com to get a free ticket to Disney Land are at the bottom of this post.
  • Sunday we'll have both classes, but no BYF.  BYF resumes next Sunday the 14th.

and coming up:
All remaining Winter Camp registrations and money need to be in asap!

30 Hour Famine consent forms are available in the BYF room, and also here.  Fill out and turn in as soon as you can so we can have more accurate numbers to plan with.  This is an event with 1st Presbyterian San Bernardino & 1st Methodist Church Redlands.

And finally, The Rock and Worship Road Show is coming to Ontario on April 10th.  Cost is $10.  Please look over the website and if you think you might be interested in coming, let me know.  If there are enough folks interested, I'll start working on recruiting some other adult volunteers to come along.

To register at disneyparks.com:  Go to the website, and then to "Search and Sign up" and the "Find an Activity."  Type in zip code 92374.  If Family Service Association of Redlands does not appear as an option on the first page, scroll to the bottom where it says "Not finding enough opportunities?"  Click the link for more HandsOn Network Partner organizations.  Family Service should be the third listing that appears.  At the bottom of the listing it says click here if you have already confirmed a date and time to volunteer.  From there you just follow the directions.  It will take you through a Disney sign up and a HandsOn Network sign up. And that should be all you need to do to have your day of service count.

Heyo!

Thanks to all the BYF-ers who helped put together hygiene kits on Sunday.  Our stack will be sent off to Haiti with some more from the ABW ladies next week.

This week:
  • Thursday night we learn more about how the Bible came to be.  Hint: it was not the product of an ancient book report.
  • Sunday school for both classes
  • No BYF this week because we'll all be eating chili and going to the Annual Meeting instead.  In the eyes of the church, most of the youth are considered full adult members, so this meeting is for you too.

Upcoming:

No BYF on February 7th because we'll be at Family Service Association the day before.  Also, if you register beforehand at disneyparks.com, you can get a free day at Disneyland in return for your day of service.  The next BYF will be February 14th.

The first round of registration for Winter Retreat is over, but you can still come!  Download the retreat registration, regional medical release, and church medical release forms here and turn them in along with a check made out to FBC Redlands asap.

30 Hour Famine consent forms are also available here.  We're doing the Famine this year March 5-6 with the youth from 1st Presbyterian San Bernardino, and maybe also the group from 1st Methodist.  More info coming soon!

Today, I wrote you a haiku:

whizzing ping pong balls
ecclesiastes is what?
watch out for the rats

Hmm, maybe I should keep working on it.
Anyhow, this week looks like this:

Thursday: Church supper and youth co-op return!  We're back to The Bible this week, review Hebrew and Old Testament, and then on to the New Testament

Sunday: Both classes will be combined this week.  The High school class will resume on the 17th with the next installment of Freaks and Geeks

Looking ahead:
Winter Camp: February 19-21, theme this year is "You Can't See Me."  Registration form, regional medical release, and church medical release forms found here.  These will also be mailed to you, but in case that one gets lost, the ones online will be accessible for a while under the forms page.

Tuesday December 29th 2009

It's the fifth day of Christmas today, which means we should all be getting 5 golden rings.  Although, in the original song, those "rings" were five birds with ringed necks, like pheasants, so I for one am very happy not to be receiving any version of today's gift.

This week:
No Thursday night supper or program (New Year's Eve), so here's to a good, injury-free (helmets with those bikes, fellas!), and happy start to the new calendar year!

Sunday School for both classes.  Next week, January 10th, both classes will be combined for one week only.  Just a head's up.

Coming up:
Family Service Day: January 9th (note: this is a different week than our usual service day, so while members of FBC will still be volunteering, this will not be an official youth event.  Any youth who come to volunteer that day need to have a parent or guardian come as well since I will not be there)
Winter Camp: February 19-21 at Camp Cedar Falls
30 Hour Famine with 1st Presbyterian San Bernardino (more info soon!)

Did you know that if you received all of the gifts in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas," you would receive 364 gifts?  And they would be pretty messy gifts, so if that's an idea you were tossing around, I'd reconsider.

Now, on to this week--Love:

Thursday is the Mexican Christmas Dinner (5:45), Posadas Song Tutorial (6:30), and Pinata Smashing (6:45), followed by more Hebrew.  This would be a good time to get super excited.

Saturday is Las Posadas.  Be at the church before 4 so we can start on time!

On Sunday we'll have our Christmas party in Sunday School with breakfast burritos and some sides and some games.  Other food or drink contributions are welcome, but not required.

Here's a fun fact:

This Thursday the 10th is the Hanging of the Greens service.  Want to know a little more about the history of tree decorating in Christian history?  Go here to find out who traditionally puts a glass pickle on their trees.

Additionally, Sunday begins the 3rd Sunday in Advent, the week of Joy.  It's also Cantata Sunday which means that both the Worship Team (1st service) and the Chancel Choir (2nd service) will be doing musical presentations, which is pretty excellent.

And finally, Saturday the 19th at 4pm is the Las Posadas pilgrimage.  We'll be rehearsing Thursday the 17th after church supper.  Below you'll find a music file with the first verse of the song, in case you want to take a listen.

El Adviento esta aqui! (Advent is here!)  Who's excited?

Just me?
Oh, ok, well just FYI, this week's theme is Hope.
And here we go:

-     Thursday will be business as usual, supper and then co-op.  We're still working on the Bible (it is an awfully long book, you know).  And a free "Get a Seat out of Bruce and/or Ryan's Deadly Glance Range" card for anyone who remembers what Pentateuch means.

-     Saturday the 5th we'll be at Family Service Assn. again to volunteer for the morning.  Meet again by the bulk storage door at 9am.  Pick up time is at noon.

-     Sunday school as usual.

and remember, the Posadas pilgrimage will be on December 19th, starting at 4pm here at church.  All you need to do to participate is show up on time.

Tuesday November 24th

Hey, did you know it's almost advent?

Not only does that mean that we are officially starting the busy season of church life, but also (and more importantly) that we are now in a season of waiting for Jesus.  Which is pretty exciting when you think about it, really.

So here's what's what this week:
  • Perhaps it goes without saying, but we will not have Thursday night supper and program this week.  Have a good Thanksgiving!
  • We will have Sunday school classes for everyone this week, but no BYF.  In fact, we won't have BYF again until January 24th.
  • This Sunday we'll also start selling coffee again between services.  The money that we make during advent will go to Invisible Children

and here are a few things coming up in the next few months to get on your calendar:

December 19th, 4PM: Las Posadas, a walk through the neighborhood with 6 other churches, singing and commemorating Mary and Joseph's search for room at the inn.  We'll start here at FBCR and end with a Mexican feast at Holy Name of Jesus (next door)

February 19-21: Winter Retreat at Camp Cedar Falls.  The theme this year is "You Can't See Me!" details soon
and dates TBD: Thursday night program on Invisible Children and 30 Hour Famine/Invisible Children lock-in- details also soon

and now, as your reward for making it to the bottom of this post, a little advent video treat

Tuesday November 10th, 2009

Ok folks, let's be honest here: what we're all looking for a little more of is....mystery.

So that's why I'm not telling you what we're studying on Thursday night.  Here are a few hints: it doesn't have anything to do with squirrels, but it does have something to do with aqueducts and Jesus

Sunday is Sunday school as usual.  Then we have the Children Helping Children Carnival starting at 12:15pm and we are in charge of running all the booths.  Those of you hanging around during 2nd service can help Betty Jo get everything all set up.  If you haven't already been assigned a game to run, we'll take care of that in the morning, so there's still time to sign up.

The calendar has been updated, so check it out.  And next week we'll come up with a new coffee selling schedule and introduce Las Posadas.

Wednesday November 4th 2009

Picture
hello everybody!

Everyone's well again and back on track, so here's the skinny for this week:
  • Thursday: Finish believer's baptism
  • Saturday: Family Service volunteering day.  We'll meet at Family Service at 9am by the bulk storage door (far end of the parking lot), and stay until 11am.  I need recent medical release forms for everyone attending.  Let me know if you need a new one.
  • Sunday School: Both classes meeting, and we'll talk about starting up the coffee sales again.  Also, Betty Jo will come by to give us a run down of the Children Helping Children Carnival next Sunday the 15th.
  • BYF: We'll finally get back to working on the Invisible Children project.  It looks like the December date is going to be too soon to get together with some other youth groups, so we'll look at some late January dates instead.

Wednesday, October 28th 2009

Picture
Hey hey everybody!

  • This Thursday, the acting company of FBCR (that is, the Thursday night crowd) will hold its first and only performance of Acts 8:26-40.  If you have not yet read through the passage at least once this week, consider this your reminder.
  • Sunday school as usual.  Hilary and I will both be back this week, so the High School class will meet.
  • No BYF this week.  It's a little out of order this month, but our 1st Saturday Family Service volunteering trip will be November 7th, 9-11am, meet at the church at 8:45am. Let me know if you plan to come.
And a few other things:
The ladies of the ABW (American Baptist Women) have been extremely supportive of the youth program here        and now they need our help.  Their Children Helping Children carnival will be on Sunday November 15th        from 12:15-2pm.  If you haven't yet signed up to help run a booth (skee ball, bean bag toss, etc.) please do it        soon.  It's a small commitment and they would really appreciate our support.

The worship commission needs our help for the Agape meal on Thursday November 19th.  We can help          them out by serving parts of the meal.  No sign-up needed, just be there on time on the 19th so we can            do our part to serve our congregation.

Tuesday October 20th 2009

howdy pardners

We're business as usual this week.  Be there or be a rhombus.

The response to the Invisible Children presentation was fantastic, so we're tentatively planning on having two big events:
A Thursday night program on December 3rd and a potential lock-in with some other youth groups that weekend.

More details soon, but go ahead and check calendars so I know if these are good dates to move forward with

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Picture
Two important things for this week:

- This Sunday the 18th some U of Redlands students will be here to talk to us about the Invisible Children organization.  We'll watch a video about them in Sunday school, and then they'll stay for BYF and continue the discussion as we think of ways we might want to get involved.  See last week's post for more info.

- The dates for Winter Retreat have been announced!  We'll be at Camp Cedar Falls again from February 19-21.  More info on the way soon!

And it'll be Thursday night Co-op as usual.  This week we'll wrap up soul freedom and move into believer's baptism.

Special Announcement!

Picture
Heya!

So here's some exciting news: A group of students from the University of Redlands will be coming to us for Sunday School and BYF on October 18th to talk to us about the Invisible Children organization.  Invisible Children works to spread awareness about the decades long Civil War in Uganda and the young people who have been affected by it, many of them for their entire lives.  Invisible Children tells their stories, and helps raise funds to re-build their schools and clinics so they can begin to live nirmal lives again.  The U of R students will help us understand the situation in Uganda and then tell us about some ways we can work on being the hands and feet of Christ.

So, make sure you're here, and bring a friend or two along if you want.

Tuesday, October 6th

Why hello chilly October!

Regular programs all this week:
Thursday night supper and co-op: We'll finish up "Soul Freedom"

Sunday School: Both classes meeting.  Also, the fellowship leadership team will get some new responsibilities

BYF: This week we'll conclude our series on food with a project in food hospitality.

Tuesday, September 29th

Picture
Hellllllllo All!

Regular programs this week, except for BYF.

Instead of having our regularly scheduled BYF on Sunday, we'll be headed to Family Service on Saturday morning to volunteer from 9-noon.  If all goes well, then we'll do the same thing every 1st weekend of the month:
Saturday morning volunteer and no 1st Sunday BYF
.

If you plan to come on Saturday and haven't yet let me know, please call or email sometime this week so we can give them a headcount and plan rides.

"Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Matthew 19:21

Tuesday, September 22nd

Picture
For this week:

Thursday Night Co-op:  Since the Mission Commission is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday , we're going to help them out by making some baked goods to serve at the auction.  BYF room  opens at 6:20PM, and we'll start baking at 6:45PM.

Sunday School: Classes as usual

BYF: We'll try out the new schedule again (food, play, some prayer, some study, and something new) with a different theme (hint: it's not trash-eating aliens, but it does have something to do with the picture).  Folks who go to 1st service and hang around after Sunday school will be hanging out with Alex again.

Tuesday, September 15th

Picture
Heyo!  It's time for the new church year to begin.  (Insert wild and joyous cheering here)

Here's the skinny:

Thursday:  Supper (5:45pm) and Youth Creation Cooperative (6:45pm) in the BYF room
we'll start work on our new series, We Are Baptists
Sunday:   Sunday School (Middle & High School, 9:45am), BYF room
we'll get together for the first time in our new leadership teams and start the new year of lessons
BYF (12:20pm), in the BYF room and the patio

new process this year, and we'll paint the paper recycling bin (no kidding)

Also, on Sunday everyone will be getting a letter to take home with:
 - a new Medical Release form for this year (necessary for everyone who participates in the program)
- information on how to access the two surveys on this website, one for youth and one for a parent/guardian.  They're short and painless and will really help me and the youth volunteers stay on top of things

Special Announcement!  Monday July 27th 2009

Picture
hey all!

Sandy and Richard Carlson have recently offered to host the youth for a pool party and cookout on either Friday August 14th or Saturday the 15th sometime in the late afternoon/evening.  I know this is short notice, but I also know that it is some kind of hot outside and tasty food and drinks by the pool, and maybe some lawn games thrown in, sounds like a good idea to me.

So, if that sounds like a good idea to you as well and you can make it either of those days, please let me know which day is better for you ASAP. If we get enough folks who can come, I'll tell Sandy we're coming and send some more details with times and directions.

this week, something just for fun.

Researchers at Kansas State University have mapped...the Seven Deadly Sins.  As with any data like this, it's always a little suspect, but really interesting anyway.  Take a look here.

Tuesday June 30th 2009

Hey!  For you folks in the High School age study, the review for our first session is up on the forms page!  Take a look, and I'll see you next week, same bat time, same bat place.

Here's what shaking nowadays:

We had a delightful yard sale on Saturday and made a very respectable (roughly) $950, which means we've got enough to send some folks to Catalina.  So if you want to go on the Catalina retreat and haven't signed up yet, do it this week!  There are only a few more spots left!

The summer study of Faith and Sexuality starts on Monday the 29th at 6PM in the gathering room.  If you have any questions between now and then, or want a list of the topics we're covering, lemme know

Also, the Sunday morning coffee sales are going like crazy, and we need some more volunteers.  If you want to help brew, set up, manage money for, or sit at the table on Sundays, lemme know so we can get a rotation going.

Thursday June 4th 2009

Picture
Hey yall! The deadline for signing up for the youth rally in Pasadena during the Biennial was Sunday, so if you wanted to go but forgot to sign up, do it now! If you still want to sign up, email or call Hien (hien@fbcredlands.org, 909.793.3289)  this week  and get registered.

Update!  Special Update!

hey!  So we've got a new photo sharing page for our youth group photos.  Fotki is a little more friendly to use and will be easier for folks to start uploading their own pictures when you have 'em.

So here's how you do it:
  • Got to Fotki
  • Login on the upper right hand corner (psst: the login info is the same as it was for the other photo site- gimme a call if you need a reminder)
  • This will take you to our group page.  From here you can click on Photo Albums where you can add pictures to an existing album, or make a new one
  • Then you're all done.  Give it a try and let me know how it goes.  Hopefully this will be something we can all use and share our really attractive pictures with each other.

Whoa.  There is so much going on over the next two weeks, I can't even take the time to think of something clever to open with.  So insert your own witty and pertinent line here, and let's get going...

Thursday: Last Coop of the school year.  We'll be doing one small project to get ready for next year, and then it's outside for some games.  Will you have fun?  Why, yes.  You will.

Sunday: Regular Middle school class; no high school class. Hilary and I will both be gone, so high schoolers will be taking a travel trip back to MS class for the week.  High school (current and upcoming) Sunday school brunch on June 14th in the mezzanine classroom.

NO BYF this week.  Cause I'm still gone.  But on the 14th, we'll have our last BYF of the school year at Prospect Park.  Parents can pick you up there at 2PM.  Friends are welcome, just let me know ahead of time if you want to bring a buddy so we have enough food to go around.

And for your upcoming events:

Ages 14 & up Summer study on Faith and Sexuality, Mondays 6-7:30PM in the gathering room.  Study starts June 22nd with a parents meeting.  Regular student sessions start on June 29th.  Study goes through August 10th.

June 20th Yard Sale
Youth who help with the sale (either prep work or working on the day of the sale) can use part of the money to pay for the Catalina Retreat in August.  Sale will start at 8:30AM, those heliping should arrive by 7:30AM.  Call or email if you can help out

Catalina Retreat, August 7-9
Come enjoy a few days on the beach and learn a little bit more about each other and God.  There will be worship time with all ages, special youth sessions, and plenty of free time for napping, playing in the water, and hiking around the camp.  Call, email, or return the permission slip if you want to come or have questions.

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Picture
So I've been informed that there are only something like 18 days of school left.  I don't know how accurate that is, but I think regardless we should celebrate the end of another exciting year...with a music video from the summer of 1995 when I was 13  (video down below)

But First!

Thursday Co-op: next to last week to work on your projects.  The last Co-op of this school year will be June 4th

Sunday School: as per usual

BYF: We'll be watching the movie Spellbound.  Not only is it funny and interesting, but it'll also give us lots to talk about.  Also, there will be popcorn.

Finally....
on the forms page you'll find a couple of new things, including the fliers that should have been brought home about the yard sale on June 20th, and the Catalina Retreat that the yard sale will be raising money for.

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Ok, folks, there's a lot going on, so here goes:

Thursday Co-op: We'll continue work on spiritual autobiographies, AND more experimental prayer time.  All in one evening, you ask?  Indeed, friends, indeed.

Sunday School: business as usual.  also, current and upcoming high schoolers should be receiving an invitation in the mail soon.

BYF: We'll be doing some modified yoga and talk about embodiment.  Not sure what that means?  Good, then come and find out.  Also, wear some clothes you can stretch and move in.  Check the calendar page for the rest of the BYF schedule.

Yard Sale Fundraiser: June 20th, 8:30AM-2PM.  This one's for the folks planning on going to Catalina.  Everyone who helps out will be able to use some of the money we make to help offset the trip costs.  More info Sunday.

And a few reminders:
*Dodger Night (June 5th) sign ups and $ are due on Sunday!
*If you are 14 and up and want to be a part of the summer study, let me know soon so we know how many folks to plan for!
(find the letter that you should have gotten at home on the Forms page.)

and below, just for fun, is a little Matisyahu  for your Tuesday.  Try the 2nd video, "Jerusalem."

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

What's shakin' eggs and bacon?

For this week:

Co-op: we'll be making some special additions to our spiritual autobiography projects and try some experimental prayer time.  Is this something you want to miss?  No, it definitely is not.

Friday Broomball: get $ and forms in and we'll make the trek to Ontario.  Arrive at church by 10PM so we can go meet up with the Methodists.

Sunday school: Business as usual.

NO BYF: Not only is it Mother's Day, but Deena and Dale are getting married.  So go celebrate something with people you love and we'll see you next week!

And remember to get your sign ups in for the rest of the spring and summer activities!
Lost your form?  Download and print  it from the Forms page.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Hello!  Hello!  Hello!

- This Thursday (the 30th): We'll be making a trip upstairs to the children's programs to help Cindy teach about Tinikling (Filipino Stick Dance).  Delightful video here.

- Since it's the first Sunday, BYF will be service here at church.

- Broomball is coming soon and the time has changed!  The date is the same (May 8th), but the 10pm time slot got snatched up (!), so Broomball will now be at 11:50PM.  I know this is a lot later than originally planned, so please let me know by Thursday the 30th if this changes your ability to go.  $ due by May 7th.

- If you have your upcoming games/meets/performances/recital schedule and want to share it with the group, let me know and it can go up on our group calendar so that we can get together a cheering section.

Tuesday April 21st, 2009

Specials this week in the world of FBCR Youth:

- Saturday: Six Flags Day!  Meet at church at 9AM.  If you still haven't reserved your ticket, I need to know you're coming today!

- Sunday: To celebrate God's creation and Earth Day, we'll take a (short and delightful) hike and picnic on the San Timoteo Canyon Creek Trail.  Wear shoes and clothes you can walk in.

- Want to help with the June fundraiser for the Catalina retreat in August?  Let me know so we can start planning!

Tuesday April 14th, 2009

Heyo!
Hope everyone had a delightful Easter Sunday and took time to have a moment of silence for our fallen tent.

This week we're back to our regularly scheduled program, Sunday schools, Thursday Co-op and BYF.  If you have anything from home you want to incorporate into your spiritual autobiography project for the Co-op, be sure to bring it Thursday.

Also, remember, money for the Six Flags trip on the 25th is due this coming Sunday the 19th.

and that's all folks

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

So here's something you might already know:  It's Holy Week.  This is the week in the life of the Church (that's the whole worldwide church, not just our little congregation) when we remember, mourn, and then celebrate the suffering, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  Needless to say this is an important week, so here's the schedule for the week:

Thursday: Maundy Thursday- After church supper we'll head upstairs to the service led by the 8:30 worship team.  If you've never made it out for this service, you should make a point to stay this year.  You won't regret it

Friday: Good Friday- The day we commemorate Jesus' death.  The sanctuary will be open for communion.

Sunday: Easter!  We'll have an all-grades Sunday school brunch, have a little Easter cookie lesson (very exciting), and then hide eggs around the Fellowship Hall and Gathering room for the 3rd-5th graders to find before 2nd service.

Tuesday March 24th

Calling all musicians!
So some of you have been voicing opinions about wanting to change up some of the music that we do at church.  Great idea!  So here's your chance: All musical youth who are interested in practicing and playing with some of our young adult musicians should let me know (and what instrument you play) so we can see if this is a viable option.  This is a great chance to get to know some other folks, get new music happening in church, and hone your chops with some experienced players and singers.

Tuesday, March 17th

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
For this week:
Thursday Co-op: we'll continue work on building our spiritual autobiographies.  Hello self-awareness!
Sunday school: as usual (and with new candy!)
BYF: This week we'll be helping plant the Easter flower beds.  Bring some clothes you can get messy.  Next week is a 5th Sunday, so we'll have a movie afternoon.  More info soon.

Also, there are a lot of opportunities coming up with the region that we can attend including:
Six Flags Day: April 25th, tickets $36 (includes all-you-can-eat picnic and entrance into park)
Dodger Night:
June 5th, tickets $10
Youth Gathering during the biennial
: June 27th, morning gathering with all youth followed by picnic at FBC Pasadena
Serve the City
: August 19th-22nd, mission opportunity in LA

Tuesday, February 25th, 2009

Happy Fat & Shrove Tuesday!

For this lovely ole week:
- This Thursday we'll have the Co-op and we'll be continuing some of the things we started talking about at Winter Retreat.  Woot!
- Middle and High School Sunday school will be happening this week!  Middle School is in the BYF room & High School in the gathering room (that's the small one).
- BYF is back this week!  The Warrens are bringing lunch and we'll get back to working on our tent.

- And finally, we need a couple volunteers to help out this Sunday to read a prayer to mark our 30 Hour Famine.  Call if you want to participate and I'll get you a reading part set up.

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Happening this week!
- Winter Retreat: Arrive at church at 5:30pm this Friday the 20th to load up vehicles.  Then we'll go to Gourmet Pizza for some dinner and leave for the mountains around 7pm.  Make sure you bring warm clothes and a warm sleeping bag and a flashlight!  Everyone should also have a more detailed "what to bring" list already.  Let me know if you need another one.  We'll return sometime early Sunday afternoon.
- For those of you staying in town this weekend, we will have both Middle and High school Sunday school.  High schoolers: Hilary and special guest teacher Eric will be leading you this week.  Have fun!
- No BYF this week since most of us will still be in the mountains.  We'll start up again on Sunday March 1st and get back to building that tent!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Mystery Dinner Theater Practice Party!  Mark your calendars!
Over the next few weeks, those of you who will be involved in our Mystery Dinner Theater Fundraiser for World Vision (30 Hour Famine) will be receiving your roles as either table actor or servers.  Then on Friday, March 6th at 5pm, we'll all gather here at church to eat some pizza, practice parts, work on props and sets, and do a couple of run throughs so we're all set for the event.  If you haven't signed up yet, do it soon!

Thursday, february 12th

heeeeeey there!
A few reminders:
- High school sunday school starts this Sunday the 15th!  We'll meet with everyone in the BYF room for share/prayer/offering and then move over to the small room for our study
- We will have BYF this Sunday.  It's the 3rd Sunday so we'll be helping Dennis with a project here at church.  The ladies of the ABW will be bringing lunch

PS: the pic is one of the one's taken by Robert during the famine.  More coming soon!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Hey all you 30 Hour Famine-ers!
We have time on February 15th in both the 8:30am and 11am services to talk about our famine experience.  We'll work on what we want to do during that time during the famine, so go ahead and tell your folks and mark your calendars for the 15th!

Heya!
A little change folks: For our 30 Hour Famine service project, we'll now be headed to Family Service Association here in town instead of going to San Bernardino.  Just sos you know.
Also, get those consent forms and permission slips in soon! We'll be continuing the sidewalk chalking this Thursday to continue promoting for the Famine.

See yall then!

Deadlines are approaching!
Be sure to get those 30 Hour Famine & Winter Retreat permission slips in soon!  Not only will you have the chance to meet new folks and get closer to those in our group, but both trips will have lots of time for games, service, and learning.  And did I mention that you get to wear a superhero costume for Winter Retreat?

Hey everyone!

Just a quick reminder that this week marks the first 3rd Sunday of the month of the year (what?!).  That means that starting Sunday, we will have an emphasis throughout all youth programs on service.  We're starting very close to home this time around since instead of having our regular BYF meeting, all youth who stay after 2nd service will be expected to come to the annual meeting.  As full members of the congregation, both attending and participating in this meeting is your right and responsibility, and also a good way for you to serve your church family.
I'll also have some crochet hooks and yarn on hand if you want to practice while you listen.
See yall soon!

Thursday, January 8th

whooops!
You might have noticed on the packets that got sent home a few weeks ago that the date for the 30 Hour Famine schedule sheet is wrong.  The dates are February 6th-7th, not the 16th-17th.

Also, a little preview for Sunday school this week can be found below.  See yall soon!

Monday, January 5th

Hello New Year!
A few reminders for yall:
- BYF returns this week on the 11th!  We'll be doing a little rearranging of the room, so come on out!
- Thursday night Co-op also returns this week on the 8th.  We'll finish up our bag of plastic bags tutorial.  Don't forget your crochet hooks!
- If you haven't received or returned the various things in your packet, do it soon!  I need the surveys and the retreat and 30 Hour Famine permission slips.

Tuesday, December 30th

Hey everybody,
Just a reminder that we do have Sunday school this coming Sunday the 4th, but we will not have BYF.  BYF starts up again on the 11th.

Happy New Year people!  Have a good one, see yall Sunday, and here's a little something to tide you over until we meet again.

Times they are a changin'!
That's right, we've moved the date for the mystery dinner fundraiser to Friday, March 13th.  This will give us plenty of time to practice and make sets and props and the like.  This also means that there's still time to get involved!  So if the January date was coming too soon for you too, relax.  We'll check in on Sunday and make sure the new date works for everyone.
In short: whoohooo!

December 11th, 2009

So, this coming Sunday is the 3rd in Lent.  Around here, that means we focus on the idea of JOY.  Which begs the question:  what are you joyful about this advent season?  In BYF we'll be having a special advent communion service during which we'll be able to celebrate the ability to be together as we wait for Jesus.  As you finish out this week, think about the times you are joyful throughout the day, and then thanks the people and circumstances that make that joy possible for you.  Also, check out the video below for a little joyful advent music from Alison Krauss.

see you all tonight!

Mark your calendar!
Thursday.  Two days from now.  The 11th.
Come for church supper at 5:30pm and then stay for a mystery dinner planning meeting.  This is the meeting when we assign roles and other responsibilities, so make sure you can make it to this one!  Added bonus: it's birthday night, so there'll be pretty hats and cake galore.  What more could you really want from a Thursday?

P.S. why the turkey, you ask?  I say, why not the turkey?

November 20th, 2008

Did you know that this Sunday is Christ the King Sunday?  Never heard of it?  No problem.  Click on Jesus for a better idea of what this day is for, and then bring any thoughts you have on that to Sunday School and BYF this week.

November 17th, 2008

Coming soon to a youth room near you: a bulletin tree.  That's right, people.  Instead of the traditional bulletin board, we are moving to a bulletin tree format for all new notifications, posters, reminders, and volunteer assignments that will be posted in the BYF room.  Confused?  Good, then come by the room and see what I'm talking about.

November 14th, 2008

Heeeey people!  There is now a bag outside my office door for depositing (clean) used plastic shopping bags.  We'll be learning to cut them into strips and crochet them to make our own MamaEarth friendly bags (and other things) for the next few weeks during the Thursday Night Co-op.  Feel free to drop them off any time, and stay for some Red Vines, if you're so inclined.

November 12th, 2008

Heeeeeeey everybody!  Just a reminder- we'll start sign-ups for the Mystery Dinner Theater (January 16th) fundraiser and the ABCLA Winter Retreat (February 20th-22nd) this week!  Check your calendars and bring any questions you have on Sunday.

November 10th, 2008

Whooohooo! We now have a Photobucket group account for pictures and video.  When new pics are available, a link will appear in the multimedia page.  This will take you to the Photobucket website where you can enter the password and view the album.  Get those pretty picture smiles ready, people!  (Hint: this means you should not be smiling like Eric is in this photo. Eeeeek!)  The password will be distributed this week at the Thursday Night Co-op and at Sunday School and BYF.

November 5th, 2008

Just a little reminder to keep up with your World Mission Offering coin boxes.  Everyone should have gotten a coin box and an offering calendar.  If you don't have one yet, be sure to grab one this Sunday in Sunday school.  There will be a stack in the BYF room.  Check out their website if you need a little more info or inspiration.
